Amplifiers are not supposed to look like that

DSCN8025 DSCN8026

Fixing taking apart an amp from the E-Waste. Noticed a fuse was blown, found a new one, and checked the resistance. 2 ohms seemed a little low. Looking deeper, the base speaker amplifier pair looked a little off. Burned right through with a chunk gone. Glad the fuse was there.

DSCN8029

Beast of a 5 amp 120V to +-17V center tap 15A per line torodial transformer in there. Likely going to turn that into another amp or something.

DSCN8027

The amp and its board. I may turn it into a speaker box and extract the power supply or replace the amplifiers. I have some amplifier chips here that should do the trick, but why they blew is likely more important.

Updates At ThinkHaus

The mill is moving!

DSCN8010DSCN8017

The gearbox is fixed. The mill motor can be wired up and works. The collet was removed and opened. As well, a source of more collets was found and we may be able to get a whole set. All that is needed now is a box to put the motor capacitor in and a vice to clamp to the ways.

The kiln is very nearly done!

DSCN8018DSCN8019

The wiring is done shy of the two heating elements that will be purchased from The Pottery Supply House and a sheet metal plate to cover the back. Now, moving forward a shed will need to be built and discussions with insurance will be needed, but it is very nearly done.

As for the stilts, the clips have not come. They were supposed to arrive by Friday…. And that was the second time I ordered them…. Anyways, they will sit/stand waiting.

May Update

Source: http://vector-magz.com/

Source: http://vector-magz.com/

Just a few small updates for May.

  • The mid-May deadline is now here for all current and former members to check-in and pick up their unclaimed projects and pieces. Everything that was not claimed is now in the process of being re-homed and/or recycled.
  • Thanks to Nick we now have a shiny new air assist nozzle for our laser cutter. It works by directing a constant stream of compressed air across the work surface which helps with reducing flaming, scorching and charring.
  • Lastly, improvements to the servers are still being stalled because dead UPS batteries. This is a call out to the community if anyone has any usable batteries that they aren’t using that they wouldn’t mind parting with or would like to donate some new ones. We’d love your help! Email us at info [at] thinkhaus.org.
